I know installing headers and a good exhaust would also help a lot. Even with stock exhaust manifolds this cam runs quite well in this low compression engine and there's power to 5000 RPM. I am currently running a Comp 270 magnum cam (because it was in a core motor I bought and in good condition) in my '73 4-speed 'bird, which is a stock '71 400 bottom end with 6X-4 heads that have been milled. Adding a couple of degrees of duration is not going to get the job done and the extra lift isn't going to amount to much either. Your engine is running out of breath at 3500 because your cam has too little duration. Adding the 1.65 rockers to your existing cam will only add a couple degrees of effective duration and about 10% lift at the valve. Saginaw 4 speed, 3 ring input shaft, 3.50 first gearįlowMaster 'American Thunder' 2.5" exhaust wth traverse two chamber muffler Since the 75 is so heavy, I'm thinking more torque. The car will prob be mostly weekend street car, track time once in a great while. I'm assuming it's 64 cc's, don't know how deep in the hole the pistons are, or what gasket is on it now. A cam that would work with both heads would be great, or at least a cam that would be slightly held back by the 291's. I hope to someday pick up some Vortec heads, as I already have the GM version of the Performer RPM vortec intake. Really don't want to take them off the block. Anyway, I don't really want to put any more money into the heads other than a spring change. My Dad seems to think it was the old 350hp/327 cam. I think it was the old 300hp/327 cam with.

I'm wanting to upgrade the cam before I drop it into my '75. It has a Performer intake and a Carter Comp 9000 600cfm AFB on it now, along with an HEI. It had a set of rebuilt 291 heads on it with stock springs, 1.94 valves. I have a 327 +.030 over with flat top pistons, stock rebuild my father and I did about 20 years ago.
